About About This Resource

Get Ready for Spooky Fun!

Are you looking for a simple way to keep your little ones entertained this October? At Study Pillars, we know how much children love the excitement of the autumn season. That is why we have created this fun and engaging Halloween worksheet for kids. It is a great way to bring some seasonal magic into your home or classroom without needing any fancy equipment.

What is this Halloween Resource?

This activity is a classic "spot the difference" puzzle. It features two festive pictures that look almost identical at first glance. However, there are several small, sneaky changes hidden between them. Your child’s job is to look very closely and circle everything that is different in the second picture.

It is a brilliant, screen-free activity that does not require any complicated setup. All you need is a printer and a pencil or a bright felt-tip pen. If you are looking for more seasonal things to do with your little ones, you might also like our Early Years resources for younger learners.

Who is it for?

We designed this Halloween worksheet for kids primarily for those aged between 3 and 7. It is perfect for children in Nursery, Reception, and Year 1. Because the pictures are friendly rather than scary, even very young children can have a go without feeling spooked. It is a lovely task for a rainy October afternoon at home or as a "quiet time" activity in a busy classroom.

What Will Your Child Practise?

While it looks like just a bit of fun, your child is actually working on some very important skills. In the UK National Curriculum, developing good observation skills is a key part of early learning. Here is what they will be doing:

  • Attention to Detail: They have to slow down and really look at the shapes, colours, and positions of objects.
  • Visual Discrimination: This is the ability to see differences between similar images. This is a vital skill for when they start learning to read and need to tell the difference between letters like ‘b’ and ‘d’.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Holding a pen or pencil to circle the differences helps strengthen the small muscles in their hands.
  • Vocabulary: You can talk about what you see in the pictures. It is a great chance to use seasonal words like "cauldron," "cobweb," "bat," and "pumpkin."

If your child enjoys this type of visual puzzle, they might also like to explore our range of KS1 activities which cover a variety of fun topics.

Tips for Using the Worksheet

Here are a couple of practical ideas to make the most of this activity:

  1. Laminate it: If you are a teacher or a childminder, you can laminate a few copies. Let the children use dry-wipe markers so they can wipe the page clean and pass it to a friend. This saves paper and makes the activity feel like a special game.
  2. Make it a Race: For older children in Year 1 or Year 2, you could set a timer for two minutes. See if they can find all the differences before the buzzer goes off!
  3. Describe the Differences: Once they have found a change, ask them to describe it in a full sentence. For example, "In the first picture, the cat is black, but in the second picture, it has white paws." This is excellent for their speaking and language skills.

We hope your children have a wonderful time searching for all the hidden changes in this spooky scene.

Have a fantastic time getting ready for Halloween!
